There aren't many things that can bring a smile to my face faster than a great picture of one of my kids. Instead of artwork in my house I have pictures of my children in all different sizes and shapes. There are many moments during the day that I wish I had a camera in my hand to capture something cute or funny that they have done. Of course, I never do have the camera at the perfect time, so I am often the annoying mom who tries to arrange my kids to take the 'perfect picture'. I know that that candid shots are usually better, but it seems like there is always some sort of occasion that I need to hurry and take a picture for - a birthday, Mother's Day, to show grandparents their Halloween costumes. As the number of kids in our family has grown, so has my idea of what makes the perfect picture. Now that I have three, it seems like I am lucky to get them all sitting in one place looking at the camera.
Yesterday was a beautiful day and the kids and I were all outside. I decided that it was an opportune moment to try for the perfect picture. It was great natural lighting, beautiful flowers in the background and everyone was cooperating. Thirty pictures later, the best I could do was two kids with grimace smiles and one looking at the camera with a bland look in his face. Oh well, maybe next time.
Experiences like this are in the forefront of my mind as I start creating new designs for holiday cards this year (is it that time already?). I think that multi-picture cards will be the way to go for our family this year, allowing us to put a picture of each kid alone, along with my attempt at a group shot. This way there can at least be one good picture of everyone. Look for a lot of new multi-picture holiday cards at Smiles Across Miles Cards in the coming month or so, in case you too have not yet found the 'perfect picture'.
